Illegal Online Casino Busted in Buenos Aires and Santa Fe
The Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos (IPLyC) of Buenos Aires, in conjunction with the Ministry of Security, announced a successful operation resulting in the seizure of assets and money derived from illegal gambling, totaling over ARS 200 million (USD 207,000).
Following a three-month investigation, authorities dismantled the illegal platform, operating in the provinces of Buenos Aires and Santa Fe. The operation led to five arrests, six indictments, and the confiscation of USD 53,400, ARS 25 million, BRL 5,000, two cars, two property deeds, two firearms, 37 cell phones, and eight notebooks.
The IPLyC described the operation as a “groundbreaking blow” and detailed that it consisted of nine raids in the towns of Lomas de Zamora, Lanús, and the province of Santa Fe. During the raids, the leader of the online casino and four administrators were arrested, and six other individuals were indicted for the crime of illegal gambling commercialization as defined in Article 301 Bis of the Penal Code.
Gonzalo Atanasof, president of the IPLyC, explained, “This is the result of the work we have been doing together with the Ministry of Security within the framework of the Provincial Plan for the Prevention of Gambling Addiction in adolescents.”
“On these illegal sites, minors can access them because no one asks them for data to enter and bet,” he emphasized.
Regarding the seized items, which total ARS 200 million in assets and money, authorities indicated that they serve as important evidentiary elements for the continuation of the investigation.
Authorities also successfully identified and ordered the blocking and seizure of all checking accounts, savings accounts, virtual wallets, and fixed-term deposits used for operations related to illegal gambling activities.
The case is being processed by the UFI Nº8 under the direction of Dr. Jorge Grieco and with the assistance of Assistant Prosecutor Dr. Alejandro Alleno, with the intervention of the Guarantee Court Nº8 under the direction of Dr. Gabriel Vitale, both of the Judicial Department of Lomas de Zamora.
It is worth noting that the province of Buenos Aires has a Commission for the Prevention and Repression of Illegal Gambling, which facilitates the coordination of actions between the IPLyC and the Ministry of Security.
