In the 2024 annual report of the Advertising Code Foundation, the organization states that the number of complaints about advertisements related to (online) games of chance has remained limited. The small peak that developed after the opening of the online gambling market has not continued.

The Advertising Code Foundation has been the authority in the field of self-regulation of advertising for decades. The main goal of the organization, which was founded as an initiative from the industry, is to guarantee the reliability and credibility of advertising.

On Tuesday, the Advertising Code Foundation released its 2024 annual report with all the data and information from the past year. In the annual report, it also pays attention to topics that cause social and political discussions, including (online) gambling.

SRC writes that such discussions do not always lead to an increase in complaints. It points to the number of complaints about online games of chance, which have remained limited in recent years. As a result, the peak that arose when the online gambling market opened in 2021 has not continued. At the time, the Advertising Code Foundation received many complaints from people who felt that advertising should not be done for products such as online games of chance.

Limited number of complaints

In total, the Advertising Code Foundation received 4,957 complaints and reports in the past year. According to the figures, only three complaints related to games of chance compared to seven complaints about online games of chance. A year earlier, those numbers were nine and five complaints, respectively.

One of the complaints that the Advertising Code Committee dealt with was the Spin to Win promotion from One Casino, which had to go offline because the advertising expression damaged consumer confidence in advertising. It also reprimanded Circus.nl and the social media company 433NL for using role models.

The organization also handled a complaint from a player who received an advertising email from Holland Casino Online, despite the player being registered with Cruks. Despite the RCC rejecting the complaint, it did order Holland Casino Online to always add an unsubscribe link to its advertising emails.

In the annual report, the organization also linked 412 decisions to product or service groups. Of these, sixteen are linked to the category of casino, lottery, or promotional game of chance. That was two more than a year earlier, when there were fourteen complaints.
