Necochea Official Proposes Sale of Casino Land Amid Development Concerns
Matías Sierra, Secretary of Tourism and Production for the Municipality of Necochea, has suggested the potential sale of the casino land in the city. This proposal comes after a lack of successful bids for its remodeling and modernization.
On July 8th, the Buenos Aires Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos (IPLyC) opened bids for the project. However, no offers were received for the Necochea Casino, and a new bidding process is anticipated.
Sierra emphasized the importance of resolving the casino’s situation, stating that, currently, “it is the main obstacle to the development” of the city’s southern zone.
Acknowledging the difficult situation, alternative solutions being considered include modifying the bidding terms and launching a new call for proposals. This approach has already been suggested by the Mayor of Necochea, Arturo Rojas, and the Association of Administration, Foremen, and Service Employees of Provincial Casinos (AMS).
However, Sierra stated that selling the land would be a better option. “We need to find an alternative, and I believe the best would be to sell the space,” he indicated, ruling out a possible demolition due to the “enormous cost” it would entail for the municipality, given the building’s complex underground structure.
Previously, Mayor Rojas had expressed his intention to allocate the casino land for real estate developments and, in line with a proposal from AMS, relocate the gaming hall to another location within the city.
Regarding this, Fernando Hansen, a union representative from AMS Casinos, said: “We have already requested an ordinance that enables the operation of the casino in a new physical space within the city, always guaranteeing job security and access to legal and controlled gambling.”
