Newtronic’s New Owners Pay Salaries, But Casino Strike Continues
The new owners of Newtronic have completed the payment of salaries for April 2025 for the Casino de Gualeguaychú. However, workers have decided to maintain their strike, which is affecting the gaming venue in the province of Entre Ríos.
According to local news source El Argentino, the salary payments were made by the new administrators of Newtronic, the Banfi brothers, from the Teleinfo economic group. Newtronic is a major company in the gaming sector in Entre Ríos, operating 12 casinos and annexes.
Ricardo Colombo, a delegate from the Argentinean Lottery Workers Union (ALEARA), confirmed that the new administration of the company had made the outstanding salary payments.
“The mood of the people has changed, because after experiencing all these hardships for 11 months, the fact that they paid the rest of the salary [for April] on Tuesday has changed the mood,” he stated.
“There is hope, but also caution, because these people have not yet officially introduced themselves. We have not had an official conversation with this group that has taken charge of the Newtronic staff,” he acknowledged.
Colombo indicated that “it would be good if they introduced themselves, if they explained what their work policy will be, what investments they want to make” in order to later advance “on collective bargaining issues.”
“We are going to wait for these people to present a recovery plan, because the casinos have been left with debts that they will have to settle,” he added.
The Casino de Gualeguaychú remains closed to the public due to the ongoing worker strike and the lack of electricity caused by unpaid bills to the provincial Cooperative.
