Irish Gambling Authority Forges Collaboration with Belgian and UK Counterparts

The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) has recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Belgian Kansspelcommissie (Ksc), marking its second collaboration with a European regulatory body. This move comes as Ireland prepares for the implementation of its new gambling legislation.

Ireland’s new gambling law is anticipated to take effect soon. The GRAI was officially established in early March, with Anne Marie Caulfield appointed as its chairperson, in anticipation of this new law.

Chairperson Caulfield met with Magali Clavie, chairperson of the Kansspelcommissie, earlier this week. During this meeting, both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize their cooperative relationship.

The agreement outlines the principles of collaboration between the two regulatory bodies. The aim is to enhance each organization’s ability to perform its respective duties and functions through closer working relationships.

The Irish regulator acknowledged the significant support and advice received from its Belgian counterpart during the establishment phase. Anne Marie Caulfield expressed her gratitude, stating:

“This memorandum of understanding with the Belgian Kansspelcommissie is a crucial step in formalizing the working relationship between the Irish and Belgian gambling regulators. I want to thank Magali Clavie, Steve Mees, and their colleagues for the support and advice they have provided to the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland in its initial phase.”

GRAI Previously Established Collaboration with UKGC

In early April, the GRAI also established a collaborative relationship with the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC), the regulatory body for gambling in the United Kingdom. This collaboration aims to improve working relationships and enhance the execution of various tasks and functions.

Upon announcing the collaboration with the UKGC, the GRAI indicated that it was the first in a series of collaborations with other gambling regulators within the European Union. The agreement with the Belgian regulator represents the second such partnership.
