Brazilian Regulator Suspends and Reinstates Online Gambling Licenses
The Brazilian regulatory body, Secretaria de Prêmios e Apostas (SPA), suspended the licenses of seven gambling companies on Friday, May 30, 2025, due to their failure to submit mandatory security reports for their betting platforms. However, the suspensions of three of these licensees have since been reversed.
According to the SPA, the absence of these reports poses a risk to player safety, the economy, and anti-money laundering efforts. The sanction prohibits the affected gambling companies from offering bets, registering new players, and accepting deposits in Brazil. Legal online casinos that fail to comply with these provisional measures risk a fine of R$ 40,000 (€ 6,167) per day.
Of the seven initially suspended providers, three are no longer under suspension. Two of them, EA Entretenimento e Esportes and Bet.Bet Soluções Tecnológicas SA, have since submitted the required documentation. The third licensee, Pixbet, obtained a preliminary injunction through a court ruling, allowing it to resume its activities.
Pixbet was previously suspended in April 2025 for failing to provide technical certifications. That measure was lifted within a day by a ruling from a federal judge. In both instances, the timing around matches of the football club Flamengo, of which Pixbet is the main sponsor, played a role in the speed of the legal proceedings, according to iGB.
