Hommerson Online has received an additional license from the Gaming Authority for launching a sportsbook. It is not yet known when Hommerson Online intends to go live with offering sports betting.
The Gaming Authority has granted an additional license to Hommerson Amusement B.V., the company behind Hommerson Online. This is evident from the official license page on the regulator’s website. The new license makes it possible to offer sports betting on the Dutch market in addition to casino games.
Although the exact moment when the Hommerson sportsbook will go live has not yet been announced, obtaining the license is a necessary step in that direction. It is also not yet clear which software supplier Hommerson will use for the sportsbook. Previously, it seemed as if Hommerson wanted to use Betsson’s B2B software for its sportsbook, but it is unclear whether this choice was ultimately made. Hommerson is still looking for a Sportsbook Manager, according to a vacancy from Hommerson’s Maltese entity 3C Solutions.
Hommerson Online received a license to offer online games of chance on October 2, 2023, and went live just over a year later with an offer focused on casino games. With the addition of sports betting, the range of games is further expanded.
Hommerson is not the only party that recently received a license for a sportsbook. Starcasino already received a license last year, and last week Starcasino went live in the Netherlands with a sportsbook. Before that, TonyBet was the newest online casino with a sports betting offer.
Previously, other gambling sites, like Hommerson, also added a sportsbook to their portfolio. Betnation added a sportsbook in May 2024, ComeOn has had a sportsbook since July 2024, and 711 has been offering sports betting since August 2024. In December last year, One Casino added sports to its portfolio.
Hommerson is a well-known name in the Dutch slot machine industry, and with Hommerson Online, it has taken a step towards the regulated online offering itself. Founder Niek Hommerson was involved in Bingoal when the gambling market opened, a provider that has been legally offering sports betting in the Netherlands since October 1, 2021. He withdrew from this in August 2022, just under a year after the launch.
With the new license for Hommerson Online, the number of licensed sportsbooks in the Netherlands comes to 21 (*including Fantasy Sports provider Scori PRO):
