A major fire broke out this Thursday (16th) in a shopping center in Culiacán, Sinaloa state, where the Casino Royal Park, operated by Codere, was located, which was completely consumed while the roof of the site collapsed entirely.

According to local media, the fire started on Thursday morning in Plaza Cinépolis, located in the central-eastern area of the Sinaloa capital, and destroyed the casino and the Air Jump Trampoline Park.

Despite the magnitude of the incident, with huge flames that spread several meters generating a strong mobilization of elements of the Fire Department and Civil Protection, no deaths were reported. According to authorities, there were three firefighters intoxicated and a man injured with burns.

The director of Civil Protection of Sinaloa, Roy Navarrete, preliminarily stated that the fire was not intentional, although expert investigations will be carried out to determine the exact cause of the fire.

The casino

Casino Royal Yak belongs to the Spanish company Codere, which has 87 gaming rooms distributed throughout Mexico.

Until the day of the fire, the place operated normally with specialized gaming rooms such as roulette, poker, slot machines, sports betting, among others. It also offered live shows, restaurant and bar services.

The place had to be evacuated immediately due to the flames and the indefinite suspension of the service was announced.

Reasons for the fire

Navarrete explained that the fire originated due to a short circuit detected in the place, caused by allegedly highly flammable material.

Apparently, welding work would have generated sparks that reached flammable materials of the Air Jump Trampoline Park business that is located right next to the gambling establishment.
