Uruguay’s Casinos Gear Up for Summer Season with Investments and New Attractions
Gaming establishments in Montevideo, Punta del Este, and throughout Uruguay are preparing for the upcoming summer season with fresh investments in machines and prizes.
According to reports, Enjoy Punta del Este anticipates a prize payout exceeding USD 9 million, with slot machines being the most popular, followed by table games.
“Establishments have made significant investments to meet the demands by incorporating new technologies and machines,” explained Javier Azcurra, Director of Institutional Relations and Sales at Enjoy.
The Codere Group has also been renovating its slot sector since 2023, investing approximately USD 25,000 per slot machine.
At the Hotel Sofitel Montevideo, where Codere operates the Casino Carrasco, gaming accounts for 15% of the business, according to Diego Marcone, the hotel’s general manager. “Sofitel has a casino, which is one of the business and entertainment segments we cater to, along with corporate, leisure, and luxury tourism,” he stated.
The Casino Victoria Plaza, located in the Radisson Montevideo hotel, has also focused on renovating its slot machines, which generate 75% of its revenue. They have added 200 new units. “With a generational and game change, slot machines have increased their potential,” said Leonardo Fuentes, the casino’s director.
Beyond Gaming: Enhanced Experiences
In addition to modernizing games, casinos are also investing in technologies such as facial recognition tools to promote responsible gaming.
Casinos are also implementing new strategies like tournaments to attract players from around the world. Enjoy stands out with a strong presence of international visitors from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Italy, the USA, Turkey, Romania, and South Africa, among other countries.
The hotel has an agreement with the Casino de Monaco, where each establishment hosts tournaments for the other. “We have a very international offering because we have to satisfy that client profile that is very accustomed to traveling and being extremely well taken care of,” Azcurra explained.
Hotels with casinos, such as Rivera Casino & Resort, Salto Hotel & Casino, Sofitel Montevideo, and Radisson Montevideo, which are popular among Brazilian visitors, offer gaming alongside entertainment activities like musical shows and high-quality gastronomy.
In the interior of the country, Rivera Casino & Resort and Salto Hotel & Casino, four-star hotels with slot and table game rooms, also have new offerings to attract players.
At both establishments, which are managed by the same firm, “the casino offering is a large part of the business, as the hotels function as a complement for the players,” said Florencia De Lima, Head of Commercial and Marketing for the hotels.
In the city of Rivera, there are two gaming rooms: Sarandí Slots (on the main avenue) and Sala Casino (next to the hotel). The former attracts more local players, while the latter attracts foreigners. With the influx of shopping tourism in Rivera, Brazilians arrive on weekends, many belonging to the casino’s player club, which offers special rates and discounts on accommodation and gastronomy. De Lima added that Argentinians who are “passing through” on their way to Brazil are also notable, and that Rivera Casino & Resort has a unique feature: six VIP rooms with preferential access to Sala Casino.
