Parliamentary Committee to Discuss Online Gambling Legislation

The Standing Committee on Justice and Security is organizing a written consultation regarding the initiative memorandum ‘Gegokt en verloren’ (Gambled and Lost) from the CDA and SGP parties. This memorandum aims to reverse the Remote Gambling Act. Parliamentary groups in the House of Representatives have until June 5th to submit their written contributions, including any questions or comments on the memorandum.

In October 2024, Members of Parliament Diederik van Dijk (SGP) and Derk Boswijk (CDA) introduced the ‘Gegokt en verloren’ initiative memorandum. The proposal suggests reversing the legalization of online gambling. Other proposals in the memorandum include banning gambling advertisements, tightening duty of care, expanding the protection of the Cruks exclusion register, and intensifying the supervision of online casinos based abroad.

A few months after the initiative memorandum, in February 2025, the State Secretary shared his vision on gambling policy, announcing several measures to tighten it. The revised vision on gambling addressed some of the proposals from the initiative memorandum.

Written Consultation

Despite this, the initiative memorandum will be discussed within the Standing Committee on Justice and Security early next month. The parliamentary groups in the House of Representatives have until June 5th at 2:00 PM to submit their comments and questions in writing. In addition to the initiative memorandum, Teun Struycken’s policy response from February is also on the agenda.

After the mentioned deadline, the State Secretary of Justice and Security, Teun Struycken, will likely address and respond to the written contributions. There is no fixed deadline for this, but in most cases, the response from the responsible minister or state secretary follows within two to three weeks.
