Amersfoort Casino a Frequent Target for Robberies
Jack’s Casino in Amersfoort was robbed again last weekend, marking the third such incident in less than three years. Other businesses on De Kamp street in Amersfoort have also been targeted by robbers. Local media refers to the area as a ‘robbery hotspot’. A resident explains that the street’s location allows robbers to quickly escape the city after a crime.
A recent news article questioned why Jack’s Casino in Amersfoort is such a frequent target. The latest robbery occurred last weekend, following previous incidents in January and February 2023. Employees were once again shaken by a robber just four months after the second incident.
An employee at the casino’s front desk confirmed that it was ‘business as usual’ after the robbery. However, she was not authorized to comment further on the situation. The casino’s headquarters also declined to comment.
Robbery Hotspot in Amersfoort
The news outlet spoke with Henry Meijdam, chairman of the trade association for gambling companies, about the repeated robberies at the Amersfoort casino. Meijdam acknowledged that the location on De Kamp is frequently targeted:
“Unfortunately, it happens almost monthly somewhere in the Netherlands, but it’s rare for one establishment to be targeted so often. My first thoughts are with the employees and guests, and I hope they are doing as well as possible. Losing money is unfortunate, but relatively secondary.”

According to reports, Jack’s Casino is not the only business on De Kamp that has been robbed. In the past five years, there have been 7 attempted or successful robberies on the street. The Spar supermarket was robbed twice, while a smartshop and a jeweler were each robbed once. All of these robberies took place in 2023.
A local resident shared a possible explanation for the frequent robberies in the area:
“On a scooter, you can quickly reach the roundabout at De Stier and from there, get onto the ring road and out of the city.”
