Canadian Man Wins Lottery Jackpot Three Times in Nine Months
A Canadian man has defied the odds by winning a lottery jackpot not just once, but three times in the past nine months. This incredible streak comes on top of a previous jackpot win a decade ago.
On August 20, 2024, David Serkin from Lethbridge, Alberta, won a LOTTOMAX jackpot worth C$500,000 (€317,541). While many lottery players go decades without a major win, Serkin’s luck has been extraordinary.
Just three months later, on November 16, he struck gold again, winning a LOTTO 6/49 jackpot of C$1,000,000 (€635,082). And unbelievably, his winning streak didn’t end there.
The Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC), which organizes the lotteries, announced on June 2 that Serkin had won again. This time, he claimed the top prize of C$1,000,000 in the LOTTO 6/49 Classic draw, bringing his total jackpot winnings to C$2.5 million.
A Rare Occurrence
Following his latest win, it was revealed that Serkin had also won a jackpot ten years prior, taking home C$250,000 at the time.
Winning a jackpot is already rare, but winning four in a lifetime is almost statistically impossible. Serkin shared his thoughts on his recent good fortune with WCLC:
“I know the odds are astronomical. I don’t think it will happen again, but I still like buying tickets.”
– David Serkin, four-time jackpot winner
He also mentioned that he has been playing the lottery since 1982:
“You check your ticket, and if you win, you’re happy. If not, you can always try again. I’m a cancer survivor and retired, so I’m just grateful for all of this. I bought this ticket while I was getting gas. I saw the Gold Ball draw was getting close [to the last ball selection] and thought, ‘What do I have to lose?’”
