European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona Breaks Records with Over 21,000 Entries

Casino Barcelona and PokerStars announced that the European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona, held from August 26th to September 8th, saw a record-breaking participation of over 21,000 entries from more than 80 nationalities.

According to the Catalan establishment, this edition was as special as its 20th anniversary, featuring a total of 62 tournaments over 14 days of competition.

Over the two weeks, the competition attracted not only the best poker players in the world, such as Patrik Antonius, Steve O’Dwyer, Erik Seidel, and Ramon Colillas, but also personalities from various fields, including former soccer player Gerard Piqué and DJ and singer Kiko Rivera, among many others.

“The climate, the recreational and cultural attractions of the city of Barcelona, caught the attention of the players and made the EPT stage in Barcelona the largest in the history of the circuit and the only one present in all its editions,” the organizers detailed.

They also highlighted that the celebration of the tournament has a very positive impact on boosting tourism and the economic activity of Barcelona, as players stay in different hotels in the city for two weeks, often with their families, and generate significant consumption in sectors such as hospitality, restaurants, leisure, and the taxi industry, among others.

Casino Barcelona specified the following tournament winners:

EPT Main Event

The EPT Barcelona Main Event totaled 1,975 entries from 82 nationalities, becoming the 4th most crowded main event in the history of the circuit. It came very close to exceeding 2,000 entries for the third consecutive year, reaching a prize pool of EUR 9,578,750, which represents more than USD 10.5 million.

The champion was American Stephen Song, who took home the trophy after making a deal with Andrew Hulme and defeating him in the heads-up match. The final table included Rania Nasreddine, becoming the first player in EPT history to play two consecutive final tables.

This event brought together players from more than 80 nationalities, with the French being the most numerous, followed by the Italians, Spaniards, Brazilians, and British.

ESPT Main Event

The Estrellas Poker Tour was once again the most crowded event of the festival, with a total of 7,138 entries and a prize pool of EUR 6,852,480 (USD 7.5 million). This figure consolidates it as the second largest ME ESPT in history, only behind the one held last year, which became the largest live tournament in PokerStars history with 7,398 entries.

The champion was Frenchman Sylvain Berthelot, who, after seven days of intense competition, took the victory after reaching a three-way deal with Santiago Nadal and Martin Zamani.

Again, French players were the largest attendees, closely followed by the Spanish and Italians.

EPT Super High Roller

The tournament with the highest buy-in of the EPT Barcelona had an amount of EUR 100,000 (USD 110,174) and was another of the highlighted events of the festival, gathering a field of 43 entries among which were some of the great stars of world poker such as Steve O’Dwyer, Patrik Antonius, and Timothy Adams. The triumph went to Kayhan Mokri, who revalidated the title obtained in the past edition.

Furthermore, this was not the only victory for the Norwegian, as he also won the EUR 20,000 (USD 22,036) NLH – Unlimited Re-Entry tournament, an event in which Gerard Piqué also participated.

EPT High Roller

Enrico Camosci and Michael Watson were the great protagonists of the High Roller with a EUR 10,300 buy-in (USD 11,348). The Canadian Watson raised the trophy, but it was the Italian Camosci who took the biggest prize after the deal they reached before starting the heads-up.

ESPT High Roller

2,064 entries were registered in the High Roller of the Estrellas Poker Tour with a EUR 2,200 buy-in (USD 2,423). Berthold Winz prevailed at the final table after defeating Frenchman Ronald Steinmetz in the heads-up. Local player Bernat Carreras played a great role, finishing in ninth place.

Spanish Champions

The great Spanish protagonists of this EPT Barcelona were Soraya Estrada, who took the victory in a Women’s event that registered 84 entries, and Marc Liz, who was proclaimed champion of the 8-Game after prevailing over a field of 262 entries.

In addition, it is worth highlighting the meritorious 23rd position of Pablo Beltrán in the Main Event. The current champion of Spain was the best player from that country, followed by Óscar Mas, who finished in 32nd place.

More than 65,000 Visits and 24h Poker Cash

On the other hand, Casino Barcelona reported that, in addition to the European Poker Tour, it has continued to offer a great and varied range of games during the 24 hours, with poker cash as a great attraction.

For this reason, during these 14 days (from August 26th to September 8th), 65,000 visits have been registered again, a figure that rises to 105,000 if we add the more than 40,000 visits that were registered during the dispute of the EPT.
