Casino del Tormes in Salamanca Authorized to Relocate

The Casino del Tormes, a prominent gaming establishment in Salamanca, Spain, has received approval from the Gaming and Betting Commission of Castilla y León to relocate its facilities within the city.

The gaming venue will move from its current location in the former “El Sur” Flour Factory on Calle Pesca to a central location on Calle Franciscas, an area described as having “significant potential within the city’s urban core.”

The casino has been effectively inactive for over four years, raising concerns about a permanent closure and job losses.

The authorization request, valid until 2032, was submitted to the Junta de Castilla y León in December 2024 and underwent a thorough technical and administrative review involving the Regional Government, the Salamanca City Council, and State Security Forces.

The company stated that the relocation “is necessary to ensure the future viability of the casino, as the new location will allow for the modernization of facilities and improve the user experience.”

Furthermore, the new site benefits from being previously used as a bingo hall, possessing ideal characteristics for housing a casino, which will facilitate its operational and regulatory adaptation.

“The change not only entails a significant private investment, but also represents a boost for economic activity, employment, and the tourism sector of Salamanca. It is expected that this action will guarantee the continuity of the casino in a more competitive, functional, and accessible environment,” casino officials emphasized.

The relocation will also allow for the repurposing of the current complex, freeing up the areas dedicated to gaming and complementary services for the development of an ambitious hotel project.

Specifically, plans are underway to expand the existing hotel, creating a high-quality tourist complex with approximately 50 rooms, which will maintain its uniqueness by preserving cultural spaces such as the Mill Museum and the Flour Factory, and will lead to an increase in its workforce.

According to the Casino, this new integrated approach combines heritage, tourism, culture, and leisure, and will contribute to strengthening the high-level offerings in the city of Salamanca, consolidating its position as a leading destination for both national and international tourism.

The regional government stated that the favorable report issued by the Salamanca City Council, along with the positive assessment regarding public safety, “has been decisive in continuing with the processing and approval of the transfer by the Junta de Castilla y León.”

The relocation is pending only the Order of the Ministry of the Presidency authorizing it. The opening of the casino in its new location will be announced after the necessary works and reforms are completed.
