TV Broadcast and Parliamentary Questions Regarding Gambling Claims
A week later than initially planned, the TV program Radar finally addressed the situation surrounding Unibet and gamblers’ transaction histories last Monday. The program makers received a written response from Teun Struycken, and the Gaming Authority also provided a statement.
The broadcast also discussed the summary proceedings initiated by Tom Beugelsdijk against Unibet. The evening before the court case, the former professional footballer finally received his transaction history. According to the Radar presenter, the gambling company was trying to prevent the case from being used as jurisprudence.
Shortly after, it became clear that Beugelsdijk was not the only one who had filed summary proceedings against Unibet. Claim organization Gokverliesterug also attempted to obtain data from several players through legal proceedings. This summary proceeding was temporarily paused due to an exchange of documents.
Finally, CDA Member of Parliament Derk Boswijk did what he announced in the Radar episode: make another appeal to State Secretary Struycken to take action. He did this through parliamentary questions, but many of the questions had a similar thrust to previously asked parliamentary questions.
Tolerance Policy
In the same week, the Gaming Authority published an extremely interesting document in the same story. Following a Freedom of Information Act request, several documents were shared about old board meetings of the Gaming Authority. Among these documents was an intervention note on Unibet.
The note discussed Unibet’s behavior with an analysis of whether enforcement was possible. This turned out not to be the case because the situation was complex due to the ‘tolerance policy’. The way the policy was implemented at that time would pose a major process risk. Previously, it was always denied that there had been talk of a tolerance policy.
