Dutch Content Writer Wins Lawsuit Against Curaçaoan Gambling Company Betswap

A Dutch content writer recently won a lawsuit against the former Curaçaoan gambling company that operated Betswap. The woman had provided services to the online casino but was not fully paid. Consequently, she took legal action, but the opposing party failed to appear. The online casino has since relocated and is no longer active in Curaçao.

A court ruling in Curaçao reveals that online gamblers from around the world are not the only ones dealing with foreign online casinos that refuse to pay.

Disagreement Over Invoice

The woman’s company writes texts for gambling companies and affiliates worldwide, in multiple languages. One of the parties for whom the content agency wrote was BetSwap, a crypto casino with a Curaçaoan license.

The first invoice for services rendered was paid in September 2024, but this changed shortly thereafter. The second and third invoices sent by the content agency were not paid, resulting in Betswap accumulating a debt of €78,134.20 to the Dutch content company.

The gambling company allegedly found the amount too high for the work delivered and proposed to settle the debt by paying €22,000, according to the woman. The content writer did not agree to this. She claimed to be entitled to the full amount since the prices and work were contractually agreed upon in advance. The Dutch woman says that the gambling company told her they would not pay more than €22,000. If she did not agree, the company would cease all communication.

Departed From the Island

Because the gambling company stopped communicating, the Dutch woman took legal action in Curaçao in early March. The court case was heard on May 19, but as before, Betswap did not respond. The parent company, BSGG Labs N.V., appeared to have left the island. The gambling company was therefore ordered in absentia to repay the nearly €80,000, plus statutory interest.

According to the owner of the content agency, there are other parties who have provided services to Betswap without being paid. It is unknown whether there are other lawsuits pending against the gambling company.

On February 5, 2025, the footer of the Betswap gambling site still stated that the company was operated from Curaçao with a Curaçaoan license. Today, this is no longer the case. The gambling site is now operated by BSGG Labs Limitada, a company based in Costa Rica.

A license has been applied for in Anjouan to offer online games of chance. Betswap has held this license since January 2025, suggesting that it had already anticipated a departure from Curaçao in January. Earlier this week, it became clear that Pinnacle is also leaving Curaçao. This provider also recently opted for a license in Anjouan.

Whether the content company will receive payment after the court ruling is highly uncertain. The lack of participation in the proceedings, the relocation of the company, and the change of license all point to an unfavorable outlook.
