Princess Resort to Open Jamaica’s First Casino
The Princess Resort, a newly opened hotel complex in Jamaica, has announced plans to launch the country’s first casino. The announcement was made during the official inauguration of the Princess Grand Jamaica and the Princess Senses The Mangrove on December 12th.
Enrico Pezzoli, General Director of Princess Hotels & Resorts, stated at the inaugural event that they are proud to be “the first in Jamaica to offer a full-service casino.”
“Guests will be able to enjoy a state-of-the-art gaming room while also enjoying world-class food and beverages. Construction has already begun, and we are planning to open our casino in the fourth quarter of 2025,” he added.
Delano Seiveright, Senior Advisor and Strategist for the Jamaican Ministry of Tourism, confirmed that the casino is part of the second phase of the tourism project.
Jamaica’s Casino Gaming Act was enacted in 2010. The Ministry had previously issued Integrated Resort Development Orders (AIRD), which allow hotels to apply to the Casino Gaming Commission for an operating license.
While several hotels had applied for AIRD permits, none had been able to raise the funds necessary to execute the projects. Princess Hotels is poised to become the first casino operator after receiving its license in March of this year.
According to local reports, the Princess Resort represents a USD 400 million investment. It features 1,005 rooms and several over-water suites. The resort currently employs 1,400 people, with plans to expand to 1,700 when the complex is “at full capacity in a few weeks.”
Pezzoli also noted that, in its first week of operation, the Princess Grand Jamaica was ranked second in the country on Tripadvisor.
The inauguration of the Grand Jamaica was attended by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Minister of Tourism Hon. Edmund Bartlett, Mayor of Lucea Councilor Sheridan Samuels, and other Jamaican authorities.
